Liebster Award!

Oooh, another award. Boyfriend & I are currently led in bed feeling sorry for himself, He's watching Starwars whilst I'm discovering new Blogs.

Seeing this put a smile on my face, so thankyou to Bob & Victoria for nominating me! It is an award giving to up & coming bloggers with under 200 followers, so I'm feeling pretty special!

The rules for the award are as follows:

  1. You must post 11 facts about yourself.
  2. Answer the questions set by the blogger that nominated you.
  3. Chose 11 blogs and line them in your post.
  4. Come up with 11 questions for your nominees to answer.
  5. Go to their blog and tell them you have nominated them.
  6. No tags back!
I really shouldn't have done 30 facts about myself, as I have run out of things to say about myself! Feel free to just skip this bit!

  1. Since getting in to Nail Art, I don't like plain nails anymore. I much prefer putting myself through the stress of thinking up some design, then ruining it because I've gone too far.
  2. The film Watership Down scares the crap out of me! I grew up next to it, & was always terrified of seeing a black bunny.
  3. Because of that fear, the song Bright Eyes can strike fear into me.My boyfriend will sing it just to annoy me
  4. I don;t like tomatoes! They are evil.
  5. The only fruit I like is Pineapple.
  6. I do love Vegetables though.
  7. My Mum used to call Kale 'Kayleigh Cabbage' so I'd eat it. I still call it that now, & get miffed if someone refers to it by it's normal name.
  8. My eldest cat is diabetic. We nearly lost him just before Christmas. Our vet is amazing though, we've been left with a huge bill, but he's worth it.
  9. I'm pretty addicted to Kitten Cam
  10. Since being with the boyfriend, I've become a huge Sci Fi fan. He's introduced me to loads of programmes. Of course it only gets my attention if there is a love story included.
  11. I'm a big believer in the Fairy Tale. Everyone should get their special ending.
Bobs questions for me are:

1.  What is your TV guilty pleasure?

I don't really watch much Tv to be honest.  I like Doctor Who, but I don't actually feel guilty about it. It's freaking awesome.

2.  Have you got a party trick?

I get drunk on one glass of wine?  If I have one, I'm usually too drunk to remember it.

3.  What is your favourite item in your wardrobe?

My Freddie Mercury top & a gorgeous blue dress Alan got me. I've never had a reason to wear it yet though.

4.  You've been given £/$100 and you have to spend it in an hour, what do you buy?

Can I spend it online? I'd get a LOT of Nail polish, I could easily spend £100 in an hour on it. I'd probably also get some posh Shampoo & conditioner. Then with what I had left, I'd obviously find a gorgeous pair of shoes.

5.  What is your favourite all time movie?

The Little Mermaid

6.  What annoys you the most?

Lying. What is the point? You're going to get caught out in the end. I'd rather someone told me the truth, even if I didn't like it, instead of trying to keep me happy, then I find out in the end anyway.

7.  Who would play you in a movie of your life?

Oooh, I'm not sure. People used to say I looked like Avril Lavigne when I was a teenager? I've never seen it. Other than that, no-one really looks like me.

8.  What's your favourite joke?

What time is it when an Elephant sits on your car? Time to buy a new one!

9.  Who is your role model?

My Mummy. She pretty much gave up her life to raise my Brother & I. She was a single parent, & I only remember her going to the cinema once. Other than that she put us before a social life. When I have children I hope I can be half as dedicated as she was.

10.  What is your favourite website?

I don't really have a favourite. I come online, check Facebook, Check Twitter, Check some Blogs & read the Daily Mail, if only for a laugh. They're my only constants, but I wouldn't say they were favourites, just habit.

11.  Do you drive & if you do, what car do you drive?

No, I got kicked out of every driving school. I'm a terrible driver. My worst mistake was being in one of those Corsas where reverse is where first gear is. I panicked at a roundabout & reversed into a BMW. No driving school would take me after that.

My Questions for my Nominees!
  1. What is your favourite brand of Nail Polish
  2. What is your Favourite Nail Art Technique
  3. Where do you see yourself in ten years
  4. You're stuck on a desert Island & you only have three things, what are they?
  5. Celebrity Crush?
  6. If you were on Room 101, what would you banish & why?

P.S I Love You

Hi Girls!

It's 0300hrs & guess who can't sleep! I hate nights like these, I'm exhausted but sleep still evades me. What is a girl to do, other than paint her nails.

A lot of manicures going round the past few days have been going with the Valentines Day theme, so I thought I'd have a play.

I'm not happy with this, but thought I'd share anyway. It was basically an 'Oooh, I remember I have rhinestones, let me play' moment. I am planning on doing a 'proper' mani, but this is the results of insomnia Nail Art!

A complete girly manicure. I wanted to practice free handing hearts for design I end up with for Valentines Day. Easier than I thought.

I just need to figure our a final design. Although we're staying in for Valentines, & my lovely Boyfriend will not notice what my nails look like, I still want them to look the part.

Any suggestions?

Versatile Blogger Award & my Nominees

Eeep! Thankyou so much to Miss Mani Monster for nominating me for this!

Here are the rules to this award:
1. Nominate 15 fellow bloggers who are relatively new to blogging
2. Let them know that you have nominated them.
3. Share 7 random facts about yourself.
4. Thank the bloggers who have nominated you.
5. Add the Versatile Blogger Award picture to your post

Here we go:

1 - I really have trouble coming up with facts about myself, especially after having to find 30 for my post earlier.
2 - I got into Nail Art to help with my depression. It worked & I am in such a good place right now.
3 - I want to become a nail technician. As soon as I get a job, I will save up to do a course.
4 - I used to be a PCB assembler. I think having to solder small components has helped me hugely with some of the Nail Art
5 - I don't have 'normal' knuckles in my thumb. I have a joint, but I have limited motion.
6 - I've broken my wrist far too many times. The most impressive was making a bed.
7 - I now have a fear of making beds, & have only done it once in 5 years.

My Nominees. Please go & follow them.

(Sadly, I am very, very new to the blogging world, so I'm still discovering new blogs, so don't have 15 nominees)

1 - My Mint Nails
2 - NaileymaBob
3 -The Life Of A Little Hippie

I'm still looking for New Blogs to follow, so I will update this. :)

30 Things About Me

I've seen this on a few other Blogs. I'm currently taking a break from blitzing our flat, & I wont have time to do any sort of manicure today, so thought I'd take part

Warning now, I'm not very interesting!

  1. I love Astrology. I'm a Gemini, whilst I don't follow every typical trait, a lot of it makes sense.
  2. I'm a crazy cat lady. I own two cats, Dennis & Freya. I treat them like my children, & if I didn't have a boyfriend, I would completely fit the cliché!
  3. I'm addicted to Tea! There is nothing in life that can't be fixed by a good cuppa!
  4. I'm my partners carer. I don't get any benefits for it, but I do everything a carer does. He's waiting for a hip replacement. I think something like this could have either been a make or break for us. Luckily we're still strong after five years.
  5. I'm currently unemployed. I spend every morning prowling through the internet applying for jobs, & one day a week going down town to look for opportunities.
  6. I've only just started wearing make up at the age of 25! I've got such a baby face that I just looked like a little girl playing grown up. I've started to notice a few smile lines though!
  7. Leading on from that, I still get ID'd for lottery tickets!
  8. I used to have an eating disorder. I was in a bad relationship, & food was the only thing I had control of. I ended up at 7 stone at one point. I'm not not allowed scales in the flat, to make sure I don't get obsessed again. I'm now a healthy size 8.
  9. My eyes change colour depending on my mood.
  10. I hate talking on the phone! I will often cancel a phone call just to get out of it. I've also avoided making a call to my insurance for my storecard as the whole thing freaks me out.
  11. I'm incredibly close to my twenty year old Brother. Our Dad disappeared in '97 & we've always stuck together because of this. I love that I can count him as one of my best friends.
  12. I also count his ex girlfriend as a best friend. Luckily they're still close, otherwise it could be awkward!
  13. I've never been on an aeroplane. I don't understand how something can defy Gravity. It scares the crap out of me.
  14. I tend to speak before I think. Whilst it doesn't get me in trouble, I do tend to say some pretty stupid stuff.
  15. I hate my ears. They stick out quite a bit. I shall never forgive my Mother for not getting them fixed whilst it was free on the NHS
  16. My Mother is however also one of my best friends. I love her to absolute bits.
  17. My Nan suffers from Lupus. It's a horrible disease, & I'm so thankful it was mentioned so much on House M.D as it brought a bit more understanding to it.
  18. I don't like much modern music. I was definitely born in the wrong decade. Freddie Mercury is actually my Idol. If I had a time machine, I'd totally go back & save him.
  19. I always wanted to be an actress, & was set to go to Drama school after college. However I met a guy, the one I had the bad relationship with, who ripped up my dreams & confidence. Whilst I'm not going to be an actress now, I'm getting my confidence back, with is the biggest F.U I could give to him
  20. My Mother, Brother & Uncle are Ginger. I was always upset about this growing up as I felt left out. I wanted to be The Little Mermaid. A reason why I'm currently sporting red hair.
  21. I hate getting my hair cut. I'm always anxious about the cut, the having to talk to the hairdresser. What do you say? Even worse when you get the awkward silence! As a result, I haven't had my hair cut in nearly a year.
  22. I'm scared of the dark. I can't go out at night by myself.
  23. I find it difficult being friends with girls. I'm not sure why. I find it a lot easier talking to guys.
  24. I love football. I used to go to Reading matches & I watch my Brother play 5 a side every week. Sadly my boyfriend isn't a football fan, so I haven't even watched match of the day in years.
  25. If England are playing, my Brother comes round & we have to drink either Guinness or Carlsberg. It's become somewhat of a tradition. If they lose, it's obviously because we haven't had enough.
  26. I was named after the Marillion hit in the 80's. My uncle heard it & mentioned it to Mum. I'e recently learned that Mum actually stole it off of him & he would have wanted it, had he had daughters. Luckily he had two boys.
  27. I'm really shy & awkward at first, I tend to watch people & try & learn more about them before opening up. It's a hassle!
  28. I have a 'Babiest' Brother who is four years old. He is the most adorable kid I've ever known. & disgustingly intelligent
  29. I over use exclamation marks! I think they're so pretty haha.
  30. I love Snail Mail. The only letters I ever get are bills, but there is nothing better than a handwritten letter.
That was a lot harder than I thought, I really had to scrape the barrel! I'm quite a boring person really!

I'm hoping to do another manicure tomorrow, it all depends on if I can nick Megans fingers.

It all started with The Big Bang... BANG!

Hi Girls!

So, I've been watching a lot of The Big Bang Theory recently. I think this is maybe my third time starting from the first episode again. I absolutely love it, & I totally feel like a genius after watching an episode. I can now explain Shrodingers Cat to anyone I meet.

I love Galaxy nails. They're so pretty, & as I've said before, as long as you've got a sponge handy & a small collection of colours, anyone can do this manicure. The 99p shop do a huge bag of make-up sponges which I cut up & they last forever.

I actually did two designs tonight.

The first I went for a more Blue and Purple theme. I wasn't too chuffed with them, though looking at the image now, I quite like the middle finger. My dotting tool wasn't in reaching distance, so being lazy, I just used cocktail sticks. 50p for 200 in Wilkinsons you can't go wrong. Before I got my brush set for Christmas I relied on them, & I still like having them in my nail area as they're so versatile.

It was still quite early, so I took these off & did my second design:

I went for an Orange & yellow theme this time, & I probably put a little bit more effort into these to make them neater. I really need to use a decent camera for my photos, as my phone does not do well in  low light. I think these look much more beautiful in person.

For both of these manicures, I used Sally Hanson - Navy Baby as my base colour. I would list the other polishes I use, but I have about twenty scattering my nail area right now, & I don't know which ones made the final cut or not.

I really need to tidy up the whole area. I'm planning on doing a blog post about my little spot in the living room. I've got the perfect girly set up, I adore it. I just don't keep it as organised as I'd like.

For a while, my photos will not be including my thumb. When I first started doing the extensions, I didn't put the thumb one on straight, underestimating the strength of the glue, I just pulled it off, splitting the nail. I redid it, but I knocked it the other day & it came off. My poor thumb is in a poor state, so I'm giving it time to heal.

I'm looking forward to this weekends challenge too. I have a couple of ideas I want to try & Megans nails will once again feature.

Summer Gradient.

Hi girls!

I'm not sure what's going on with me. I seem to be sticking to a summery theme. It's so cold right now, I must  be making up for it by making my nails warm.

I will admit now, I'm not great at Gradient, hence why I'm needing all the practice I can get, It's going to come up in our year long challenge some time in the next eleven months, so need to try & master it.

I've gone with Sally Hanson - Yellow Kitty & my cheap pastel blue from New Look. Despite finding the sponge so difficult to use, I think the Gradient looks so much prettier with it.

I still need a lot of practice, but I think I'm finding my technique. I went over with the Matte Top Coat, as I haven't used it in at least a day or two.

The lighting in here is terrible & I did take a photo with flash & my Barry M topcoat:

So BRIGHT! You need sunglasses. The yellow is a hell of a lot more subtle than this, actually, this looks nothing like it does, but I thought I'd included it with the glossy finish.

I think I might try to update this tomorrow using tape. We shall see whether inspiration comes my way.

Sunset Lovers.

My lovely Boyfriend gave me the idea for this manicure. I wasn't sure what to do for the yellow challenge, & Alan came up with this idea. Whilst I didn't use it for the challenge, I was determined to give it a go today.

Of course, it's now February, the month of love. So theme for this is definitely love. I'm one of those annoying people who love Valentines day. I adore seeing hearts all over the shops, & couples walking arm in arm.

I've wanted to practice gradient for a while. It's a technique that I just haven't been able to get the hang on, which frustrates me to no end. I went with a Pink, Orange & Yellow for the sponge gradient. I then used a un-branded black polish along with one of my brushes to create the silhouettes.

I'm not great when it comes to freehand, I've seen a few other manis that used a stamper, & they look freaking amazing. Sadly, neither of my stamping plates had anything which could be useful.

It's so cold outside that this just makes me feel all warm & snug.

I'm trying to think up an idea for my next manicure, so until then,

Challenge 6 - Yellow Nails

Hi Girls!

Back again for another challenge, this time, yellow. I had two different ideas for this one, so I've done both of them.

The first one I wanted to try after seeing it on another blog, however I'm not sure which one, so apologies.

I started by doing a yellow/orange gradient, & then used the nail art pen to draw the outlines.

I'm quite annoyed with these. I had been practising to try and get the flames right,& I was really getting there, but when it came to doing them on nails, they did not go how I wanted, & I ended up cleaning them off not long after taking the photo.
My Brother bought me some 'Fingers' for Christmas, & I have pre-glued nails which I get from the 99p shop. It saves me from have to practice on my own nails & ruining them from nail polish remover.

These were a few of my practice runs, I think they look a lot better than what I ended up with, albeit still not perfect.

My second attempt, was what I originally wanted to play with.Bees! I love Bees. They scare the crap out of me if they manage to get near me. I just don't understand how they work. They should not be able to lift off & hover. After watching The |Bee Movie, I fell in love even more.

Poor Bee, ended up with weird stripes & eyes. I was getting a bit sleepy, so was lazy  freehanded the stripes instead of waiting for them to dry & use tape.
I used some rhinestones from the 99p shop for the trail. As you can tell, this took about 5 minutes, but it's still quite eye catching. I have named him Gilbert.

So these are my two attempt for this weeks challenge. I have a few ideas of things I want to play with, so I'm quite excited about that. I'm spending a lot of time applying for any job I can find. It's hard finding something which doesn't need experience though, so wish me luck!

Poundland Perfection.

Hi Girls!

I've spoken a lot about my recent love for Sally Hanson after buying a few from poundland. I won a couple of quid on a scratch card, & because we were not in dire need of milk, I quickly popped in for a browse.
I've never been a snob, but I loathe buying beauty products at such a cheap price. You get what you pay for after all. However, after discovering how good the SH was, I treated myself. There were no new SH shades, so ended up with Outdoor Girl in Blue  a confetti-like polish from Chit Chat. I've never heard of either brand, but decided to give them a go.

 Outdoor girl

Believe it or not, this was ONE coat. (excuse my poor thumb, I've somehow managed to crack the nail. I will fix tomorrow) It dried so quickly I hadn't even put a top coat on. It's quite holographic, which doesn't convey as well using the camera on my phone. I would have easily paid more for this.

Chit Chat

I went over with the Chit Chat polish. This was a couple of coats, & sadly this one does not dry quickly. In fact twenty minutes later, the thumb has come off,  the four remaining fingers feel quite tacky. If I spent more time doing it, & putting a decent top coat on, I think I'd have better luck with keeping the design on. It is quite fun though. In our Poundland, they also did a silver, gold  & purple version. None of them however have an names, so I can't give you any more details.

If you have a Poundland, or a Poundworld near you, please go check it out. Talking with other girls, it seems to vary in different areas. You may be lucky & find some good bargains. I've also managed to get rhinestones & nail art pens. Yay for the random pennies you find in your coat. It's only a pound, so you don't even have to feel guilty.
Let me know what goodies you discover.

I'll be doing the next challenge either tomorrow or Sunday, so until then...

Getting my Water Marble on.

Hi guys.

So today I went back to one of my favourite styles of Nail Art. The water marble. A lot of people seem to dread this one, but I adore it.
I can never seem to avoid air bubbles, but as they say, practise makes perfect.

I'm sure there are tidier ways of doing this, but although I try, I still seem to make a mess.

For this design, I used three Sally Hansons: Fairy Teal, Yellow Kitty, & Lavender Cloud. It's the first time I've used this brand in Water Marbling, I usually use Barry M, but these spread like a dream.

Not the prettiest in-bowl design I've done, but it's so much fun. I will say, if you haven't tried this, don't use a bowl that you love. I use one of our breakfast bowls, as I didn't realise it would be useless to use for anything other than playing.

A lot of people say it works at room temperature. I don't really follow this rule. I put 3/4 warm water from the tap, & top up with cold water. I then put a white base coat on, & tape up my fingers. By the time that is done & my base is dry, I go right ahead & it always seems to work.

The clean up after isn't much fun, & I don't know about anyone else, but whilst I have been converted to Sally Hansen, I find it stains my cuticles & surrounding skin, despite using acetone & warm soapy water. My fingers have started looking bruised from when I painted them two days ago. If anyone has any advice on how to make my skin lovely & pink again, I'd appreciate it.

I have another idea I want to play with that I saw on another blog, So there shall be a post on that eventually.

So until then...

Miaow!

Hello, again!

This is something I've been wanting to try for ages, but nothing was going by way. There is a story behind this, I am a crazy cat lady. I love cats, owning two myself.
If you haven't please check out Kitten Cam. John is a kitty foster Dad. He takes in Mums & their new borns, & live streams the first eight weeks of their lives. He works as a volunteer at Purrfect Pals, which is an organisation in America.
The cam started as a way he could keep an eye on the kittens & Mum whilst he was at work etc, but it went viral.
It is such a good thing he does, & it is amazing watching the kittens grow up & be able to share their journey & I desperately wanted to do some nail art.

There are five kittens in the current group of fosters, & I got a bit over my head with this, I tried the kittens I thought would be the easiest, but that didn't work, so ended up doing one of my favourites, the lovely Parker:

Photo taken by John, used with his permission.

One of Parkers many escape attempts. I haven't done him justice in anyway, but a tabby was never going to be easy.

Sadly poor Parker has ended up looking more like a dog, but it took ages, & I wasn't about to start again.

If you'd like to see more photos, or get more information about the kitten cam, check out The Critter Room on Facebook.

Thunder Bolts & lightening, very, very frightening...

Hi everyone!

I've wanted to try this manicure since I discovered http://nailside.blogspot.co.uk/ (Who everyone should go and follow. Like, Seriously, go now!

She is an amazing artist, & I am indeed jealous of her skills. She is also lovely enough to do tutorials, which is what I used to do her lightning nails. (Tutorial here)

I am SO annoyed with myself. I've been working so hard to try & make my manicures tidy, & these were so nearly there. I tried cleaning, & it STAINED my skin! I used acetone, and warm water, but was so worried about ruining the design, I've thought sod it, so please just excuse the mess.

Of course, nowhere near as good as the tutorial. My lines aren't precise enough, & my accent finger went so wrong after making my boyfriend a cup of tea, that instead of starting again I just covered up with the purple.

As you can see, I'm sticking to Sally Hansen, & I used Fairy Teal & Anenome of Mine. The top coat was part of a cheapy set from Sainsburys. It is pretty amazing though!

I will definitely try this one again, as well as the other Tutorials. Housework is done, so I have the afternoon to try out different designs. Yay!

Challenge 5 - Stripes Part 2

Aaaand, she's back! So has I stated in last post, I wasn't happy with my attempt, and can I state for the record... I HATE STRIPES.

I've had another go after receiving some striping tape of the gorgeous Saz, & Jesus, isn't that stuff fiddly! I think even the cat was laughing at me!

So, using tape, here is another attempt:

It's not great, & it is my first attempt at using striping tape. As you can see in the second photo, I used Sally Hansons complete salon manicure in 460 - Thinking of Blue & 420 - Yellow Kitty. Both of which I got from Poundland after seeing a blog post from Sammy - The Nailasaurus (Although if you're a nail art fan, you already follow her, as she is just amazing!)
I'd seen the products in Poundland before, but didn't bother as Polishes I'd brought from there had been baaaad. Sammy convinced me, & wow! I now have a new favourite brand, & for only a QUID! They're one coat only & go on like a dream. I'm really trying to improve on my overall finish, as I'm the tidiest person in the world, & these help so much. So GO, GO, GO! Off to Pound land with you!

& of course, as I'm obsessed with my Rimmel Matte, I had to topcoat with my baby:

I'm still amazed at the huge different it makes to a manicure. I freaking love it.

I am really am trying hard to get a perfect finish, & whilst I'm not there, I really think I'm improving, so again, thanks for your tips.

Challenge 5 - Stripes

Back for the next instalment in the challenge a few friends & I came up with. This week it's all about the stripes.

I think I'm going to try something else in the week, when I get the striping tape the very awesome Saz sent me, but for now I have two, not great attempts.

First one is the Rainbow stripes. This took AGES! Never again. The most disappointing thing was I did it all free hand, so it looks even crappier.

I would tell you what I used, but I used so many different polishes, it would take ages to type them all down. With the thumb, I used tape, but I wasn't too impressed, & couldn't cut the strips down thin enough, so the rest I did free hand. I finished it with my matte top coat, just because I'm so in love, & can see myself using it a lot.
Needless to say, as soon as I took the photo, I cleaned it all off. I think this could look amazing, but it took so long, I can't see my attempting it again.

The next attempt was something quick & easy,  but this was done at about four in the morning, so looking at it the next day it was a bit of a shock how messy it was.

I used Sally Hansen 'Thinking of Blue'as the base coat, & Rios white nail art pen. The only one I really like Is my little finger, so again I've taken this one off.

I have a few ideas of what I want to play with next, & as I can't seem to sleep, I'm going to have a go at a few designs tonight.

Taste The Rainbow...Matte Style!

Hi all,

I've contradicted myself this evening. I said I don't do plain nails, but that is exactly what I've done tonight on the lovely Megan. However I have plans for them tomorrow, so they wont be plain for long.

I love pastel colours, they are by far my favourite shade to play with. I had good reason to go plain. I treated myself to a Matte top coat.
Matte nails are gorgeous, & after the lovely Saz did a post about Rimmels top coat, I had to have the same.

I couldn't decide on just one colour, so thought What The Hell & went for different ones. I always do a white base coat, as I find it brings out the colours that much more.

(Excuse the state of the bottles, I make A LOT of mess when water Marbling)

Thankyou for all your tips on the tidy up process. It really helped a lot. Will take a lot of practise, but I'll get there.
As you can see, the finish on these are quite glossy, which I admit it lovely, but I really did want to see how the top coat made them look like.

The result:

It's stunning! I love it so much. It crazy how one top coat can change the appearance so drastically. Having this have pretty much DOUBLED my nail polish collection, which all us girls know is never a bad thing.

I got the top coat in Boots for around £4.60. Worth every single penny. Rimmel have really outdone themselves. The brush is HUGE & the application is so easy it  makes you think it must be too good to be true. Currently, I have nothing but good things to say about it. Hopefully it will be long lasting, & wont go gloopy really quick, as that would be disappointing, yet at this price, can't complain too much.

I will do another post tomorrow night hopefully, to show you how I'm planning on prettying this guys up!
